Poem 54: My Grandmother's Tears

Oct 14
1 min read

Tonight, I cried my grandmother’s tears

They were filled with rage

And inadequecy

Longing and untended desire

Jealousy and dismissal

Unworthiness most of all

They fell hard onto the floor

Soaked into my sweater

Rolled swiftly down the

Tip of my nose

Until I took her formless hand

In mine, in the darkness

Of a closet where I

Was sitting, wailing

Holding us close

Clutching my chest

And we crossed

The threshold

Together

Weeping for the

Souls of all

Women and

The roots of

Their sadness

Buried deep within

The soil of this world
