Poem 5/100: I no longer take what isn’t mine

Updated: Feb 13, 2023

Take this, I’m full, said the world

And she did.

Make these, we’re done, said the children

And she did.

Hold this, it hurts, said the friend

And she did.

Send these, I’m tired, said the boss

And she did.

Build this, I’m scared, said the client

And she did.

Do this,

Hold these,

Work that,

Go there,

Do this,

Hold these,

Work that,

Go there,

And she did.

And she did.

And she did.

And

She

did.

And then she didn’t.

Because she couldn’t.

She was broken inside

And out.

And then she cried.

She felt alone.

She felt worthless.

She felt heavy.

She felt alone.

She felt worthless.

She felt alone.

She felt worthless.

She felt worthless.

She felt despair.

She felt empty.

She felt pierced.

She felt heavy.

She felt worthless.

Worthless

Worthless

Worthless

And

Ashamed

Of her very

Existence

And then she cried

Until there were no tears left

In her broken body.

That empty, glorious body

A vessel with nothing but air

And a tiny mustard seed of a

Soul

Set free of the world’s requests

Broke the chains of expectations

Said NO

NO

And then

HELL NO

And she didn’t take any more

Until she understood

What was hers to take

And what wasn’t

And she began to see

The beauty of life

The joy of existence

And the reality of

What really is

When

She Knew

What

Was

Hers

To

Take

And more importantly,

What

Wasn’t
