Poem 31: A Fledgling

Updated: Feb 16, 2023

I know the point is for you to

Continuously unfold

The linear timeline

Second by nanosecond

Cells replicating, ever-expanding

This, a tiny moment in the backyard

Where you felt so proud and tender

Holding a fledgling

The end of a cycle of a family

The baby, no longer a baby

Your youth reminding us of

Innocence and recklessness

Turmoil and raw emotions

Sugary snacks and sofa snuggles

Ever-expanding and always unfolding

From youth to awareness

Like the fledgling you held

In our backyard this spring
